Although I’ve been a member here for years, I haven’t ventured into the chat rooms for years and never used them since I’ve been using an iPad.

I have been thinking of giving chat rooms a try, so ventured into one this morning.
I appreciated the very friendly welcome I was given but when I replied to comments, I found that as soon as put my finger on the message box to type a reply, the whole screen scrolled to the bottom of the page when my iPad keyboard was displayed, so I could not see the messages I was replying to and I could not see what I had already typed.
Consequently, it’s rather awkward to take part in the chat.

If any other other chatters who use an iPad, with an on-screen keypad, are reading this, could you let me know if there’s some way I can keep the chat room message screen visible while I’m typing my reply?

I am using my IPad now and just went to check.

When I start to type there is a couple of inches gap between my keypad and the message bar.

Have you enlarged the screen at all?
Happy to help.

Hi Pats,
No, I haven’t enlarged the screen.

When my keypad pops up, the screen scrolls to the bottom of the page at the same time.
I wonder if it is something in my own iPad settings that needs changing.
The page only scrolls like this in the Chatrooms, not when I’m typing in Forum message boxes.
My keypad covers about half the height of my iPad screen - does yours?

Yes it does Eira, but I can still see the reply panel when I type in it.

I have worked it out now, Pats. Thanks.

When you asked if I had enlarged the screen, I didn’t realise what you meant.
I have just had another look and now realise there’s a little screen arrow in the top right corner to switch the message board to a full screen view. I clicked on that and the message board enlarged to full screen and I was able to see the message bar above my keyboard as I typed, as you described it.

Many thanks for your help. (;;)

I’m having trouble when using chat rooms, with the reply button, click onto that and everything just vanishes.

I had that problem too.
Then I realised that the blank white screen I got is actually just the bottom of the page.
When the iPad screen keyboard comes up, the page automatically scrolls to the bottom.
If you leave your keyboard on the screen, put your finger on the white screen above the keyboard, and scroll back up the page, you will get back up to the message board area and the reply box to to type your message in.

I found it a bit of a faff to keep doing that every time I want to write a message in chat, so I gave up but I’m sure there must be an easier way.

I did find another way which I thought had solved it but it doesn’t always work for me.

On the blue bar across the top of the message board, there is a small box with an upward pointing arrow on the right hand side.
I tried clicking on that and the message board opened up into a new full screen page, which solved the problem.
The only problem is, that I can’t always get that full page to open up - sometimes, I click on that little box and nothing happens.

You could give it a try and see if it works for you.

If any other chat user can give us some tips, I’d be as interested as you to hear them.

Good Luck!
