Managed to stream the whole series on ITVX the last few days. It's about the hunt for Peter Sutcliffe, who was dubbed the Yorkshire Ripper. In those days the incident room used a card system, which turned out to be a flawed system of keeping records, which resulted in Sutcliffe being interviewed around nine times without anything coming to light. Remembered certain things that happened at the time that I remembered while watching it all unfold on the TV.

It made me very angry ... especially for the women who killed so savagely and their families.

It was a good ... and difficult to watch ... reflection of the wide spread attitude towards women by men ... to see it through this drama so marked within the police force too was an admission I thought I would never see acknowledged.

It wasn't just the antiquated card reference system that held the investigation back ... it was also the British cultural attitudes and mysogyny so prevalent at that time.

Victim blaming at it's worst.

It did not help that some of the women were not prostitutes, but were considered to be initially .

What difference did it make that some of those women worked as prostitutes?

They were all human ... some of the 'prostitutes' were much loved Mothers .... and those that weren't were NO LESS of value regardless of how they came to live their lives.

The person to blame was Peter Sutcliffe.

Not one single one of his victims.

Followed by the shambles that was the police investigation. Partly because of certain ways of working which were addressed and changed.

But also because of some of their attitudes about and towards women.

Well said.
‘Victim blaming’ is alive and well and sadly still occurs today.:(
