Have you traveled to explore information about your ancestors?

If not why not?

I have not in the past due to being a caregiver for others, now I have all the free time to explore.

I haven't personally but several of my family members have, in particular my late uncle, he resided in the US, (Iowa) and traveled extensively to the UK, Australia and other locales researching our family history. I benefit from having his work documented in a published book on the matter as well as some smaller manuscripts.

He always enjoyed the experience, especially the detective nature of some of his research, he was also a Professor of History as well as Asian Studies and languages. My late Aunt enjoyed the travel, but not the spending hours in libraries, churches and other repositories of records.

I will as soon as I retire and go with siblings, kids and nephews.
Up to now I never got the time but did a lot of research when I was a teenager so we will all visit ancestors villages (father's side ) and meet with many relatives never met before. smile.png

That should be fun.

Mother's side it is already done.smile.png

I also benefit from a cousin on my mom's side that went to Germany for genealogy research.
He passed away after my mother, so his son is supposed to continue the research as soon as he comes back from the service.

No, I haven't travelled, only in my mind. I do have ancestors from a place called Sheriff Hutton, England. Is anyone from around there?

I have but it wasn't far as most of my relatives going back to my great grandparents all lived and worked within 40 miles from me.
One of my great-grandmothers came from Ireland and travellers so trying to trace that side of the family who I believe were not to impressed that she left to marry a gorger/non-traveller I didn't think was a good route to follow.

Hiya, nope didn't physically travelled but my fingers did online. Was also part of a genealogy forum group.

I've my own tree and I've created one for fictional characters. Sadly, haven't touched my own since son passed away in 2017.

I'm planning a visit to Dundee to the local cemetery hoping to find a 16th great-grandfather. It was on the future retirement to-do list but now that hubby's died as well. I don't know when I'll be able to fulfill that part of my family tree.

Thanks!
