Bruce "My wife has feeling all the way in to her toes and they are not worried about calcifying they are worried about bits breaking off from the clots "
The more calcification she has the more dangerous the clots are so that doesn't make any sense. More likely they don't have the equipment . Not enough on prevention and all on panic after the event but at least she is being treated.

Blood samples measure a variety of substances in your blood — calcium, phosphorus, parathyroid hormone, abnormalities in blood-clotting factors, aluminum, urea nitrogen, creatinine and albumin.

Blood tests on Bruce’s good lady wife will have covered all options.

She had Clexane injections in the past when she was pregnant every single day and a few weeks after she gave birth, bee stings as they used to call them as they sting when you inject them, they haven't give her Clexane they have given her Xarelto tablets to dissolve the clots,
She is ok in pain but ok. They did mention her taking some kind of medication permanently which I presume is blood thinners and that will be fine she can do that, even more if it stops episodes of clots like she has.
I was always surprised she was never on meds daily for it before, I did ask the question but she assured me the docs said she doesn't need to be! Maybe as age creeps upwards that has to change.

Clexane is for short term use only

I guess she wasnt on medication permanantly before because the treatment for a single episode is usually blood thinners for around 6 months and then re scan, if clot has fully disolved, they can stop.

But for people who have repeat episodes, daily medication to prevent further recurrence is usually advised - daily or twice daily oral medication: Xarelto, Eliquis, Apixiban and the like.

Warfarin not used nearly as much now - but in some circumstances, it is still the only option

seems more likely they would continue on Xarelto though.

Medicine, although pretending it is, is not a science. In the last halfy of the 20th C, there were 5 studies comparing the success of old MDs (experience) to young MDs (latest science). The old guys always did better. Never go with one opinion. Get 2 or 3, and make sure you get a wide range of MD ages.
It can get even worse than that., I had a problem that 5 USA MDs were a waste of time. Went to an Italian trained MD who fixed it. BTW: Italy, not the USA, has the best medical care in the world, and at half the price of USA medical care. That's why they never send the Pope to USA for medical care.

Although not a ‘pure science’ Scientific Medicine developed over the last few centuries also called modern medicine, conventional medicine, science-based medicine, or evidence-based medicine, is a system in which health professionals treat symptoms and diseases using drugs, radiation, or surgery.

Hi, The wife is feeling slightly better and her leg is not as painful and she seems to have more movement in it.
I think the swelling has gone down too, not gone but I am sure it is not as swollen.
She is resting and looking out for any of the symptoms they told her look out for which can indicate further problems but so far so good.

This time is different she has had clots in her lungs before and she battled and beat them but this time she is scared and she isn't sleeping well as she says she is scared to go to sleep and not wake up!
I told her she needs sleep so her body and brain is rested but I understand her worries,
I am not sleeping to well as the second she moves I wake or I wake and just make sure she is ok.
She is better today than the other day so progress is in motion.

Glad to hear she is getting better.
Hope she can get some restful sleep.
Maybe this understandable anxiety should be shared with her doc?

It’s good to hear that your wife is a making some progress Bruce.

It’s perfectly natural that she is feeling anxious and scared….have a word with the ward Sister and they will reassure her and encourage her to rest as that is what she needs, along with your presence and support.
