Trump, and a Saudi prince are possible along with Kim Jong Un, even Hitler made it in the past. However, looking at this year’s lineup, I feel that no one mentioned so far merits being person of the year.

I believe the criteria for Person of the Year is a person or group who "for better or for worse... has done the most to influence the events of the year"

I think Trump might qualify - I can think of a few people or groups who might qualify too - it's all rather subjective, isn't it, so a fairly meaningless title, really - and not necessarily a compliment!

Irrespective of President Trump or not... Time's Person of the Year is increasingly ridiculous true. Agenda much? Surely.

“Time Magazine called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named ‘Man (Person) of the Year,’ like last year, but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot,” Mr. Trump wrote on Twitter. “I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!”

The magazine bestowed the title on Mr. Trump last year, establishing him as the “person who had the greatest influence, for better or worse,” on the events of 2016. It was, Mr. Trump said on Twitter, “a great honor.”

But his latest jab continued a complicated history with the magazine. In 2011, he said Time had “lost all credibility” for not naming him to its Top 100, and in 2015, he complained that he was passed over in favor of Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany despite being “the big favorite.”

Trump frequently brags about his cover appearances in the iconic magazine. He has falsely claimed to hold the record of cover appearances, and was revealed earlier this year to have displayed fake issues of Time at several of his private golf clubs. (yes, FAKE-one)

“The President is incorrect about how we choose Person of the Year,” a message from the magazine’s account said. “TIME does not comment on our choice until publication, which is December 6.”

Kapernieck (sp) is also said to be a candidate for Time person of the year according to reports today from several American news outlets.

The "short list" (yawn) was revealed today... Time has gone the way of the Grey Lady (New York Times)... dinosaur punditry pretending to be journalists. As for Kapernick (spelling)... he's obviously been hit one to many times. His stunt cost him and the NFL plenty.

What profanity is this, Time's Person of the Year where the Silence Breakers, that collective of individuals who throughout 2017 individually and with others spoke out against sexual assault and the mistreatment of both women and men who had been abused. For this reason alone it is clear that Trump was not considered for the honor. He did garner a mention though for his support of Xi Jinping's efforts to solve the North Korean issue. So a runner up, not a winner.

Have not followed Times Person of the Year - however does strike me this is very 'country centric' - there is a word for that but cant remember what it is.

ie the criteria this year anyway, seems to be who has had biggest influence on America, not on the world.

Certainly the collective of people chosen has had big influence which has flowed over to other western countries and hopefully will have a lasting influence for future generations.
