I used to enjoy a glass or 3 of Merlot with dinner, but, like altshovel, type 2 diabetes has pretty much stopped that.

I do still have about 15 bottles of "Marilyn Merlot", a California wine that has a different picture of Marilyn on the bottle each year. I have about the same number of "Norma Jean", a young merlot by the same company.

A martini will do nicely.
Or a dry white wine and lemonade (spritzer)

Cheers (;;)

Like many here I am a type 2 diabetic so only drink dry white wines like Chardonnay which does not raise my blood sugars. A sweet port spikes my glucose readings so I avoid drinks like that. I don't enjoy dry beers so it's just the odd dry white wine with a meal for me.
I occassionally dine out with a lady friend who loves a beer, and me my dry white. The waiters always seem to get our drinks mixed up. (;;)

As a wine drinker, only with a meal to be Conventual.
Give me a 30 choice wine list. Haven't a clue, Straight into glazy eyed Meltdown.
And not the least Conventional. Choosing a Red, because it looks more fit for purpose, what ever the main course.
Being corrected by a stuffy Sommelier, is a sure-fire way of me, politely as possible, telling him to "Take a Powder".
And ordering Scrumpy at the bar. Returning to find my date has Scarpered.
Probably to the Powder Room with the Sommelier

I have a bottle of Laphroaig, I've had it for a long time, I enjoy it with water. Any whiskey (bourbon is my favorite) I drink will have a water back at least. I love red wine and I like good whites and rose' s. Beer is good. I like all kinds of liquors. I'm drink a lot less than I did because of type 2 diabetes.[/quote]

If I'm having Laphroaig I'll have my water separate - half pint of water - that's my "chaser" Otherwise I have it neat.
