I don’t need that reassurance but I do love this trade. Proof that America is still the land of opportunity. A Village Idiot succeeded and if you’re not a quitter, afraid of heights or electricity you too can join us. (Kids, grand kids or whomever) The ladies, minorities and everyone under the Sun are encouraged and supported.

NATIONAL LINEMAN APPRECIATION DAY
National Lineman Appreciation Day on April 18th honors the men and women who work around the clock to keep the power going. If the power is on where you are reading this article, you likely have a lineman to thank.

From your link, Woody... and thank you for keeping the power going even
under extreme danger at times!

Some FYI stuff.
Do Lineman still climb poles? Yes, all the time.
How long does it take to become a Lineman? My apprenticeship was 6500 hours of OJT. Every Wednesday night for 3 years I attended class. Every year I attended Climbing School for 10 days.
What is a common voltage for power lines? 12470 phase to phase voltage. Ouch!
Why doesn’t a bird on a wire get shocked and killed? A bird does not complete a circuit. A human being can in theory do the same thing. (Don’t try it!!!!!!!)
What’s the most dangerous voltage? Household voltage statistically. 120/240 in the US. 60 hertz.
How fast does electricity travel? 144,000 miles a second.
Do Lineman get gifts when restoring power? You might be surprised what I’ve been offered. Booze, food, water, cookies and etc etc. I run a clean thread so I’ll leave it at that. B)
