There is a more humane way, but most people are too squeamish to do it, and so the 'easy' option is to drop them in boiling water.

If that's aimed at my reply - I thought I was clear but for clarity, I kill them humanely prior to cooking. People have tried telling me that putting them in boiling water or putting them in water and bringing to the boil is not cruel but I'm not convinced.

So killing crabs or any other creature is not on my future agenda ... worry though because the fish or meat I eat involve killing animals .

I have never killed a live crab. But when in my younger days when staying by the sea in North Wales we'd go prawning, they were always put into boiling water live to cook them . I'm not sure though I could do it now.

I have killed two live crabs although many years ago. I would not do it now, not ever.

Not by Choice. However triggers an occasion during callow yooth.
Found myself at Maldon a small chintzy river port in Essex.
Chatted with a Dutch Skipper. Footloose and fancy free, ask for a hitch to Holland.
Yes he said we could do with a hand.[Border Control would go into a Dizzy Fit these days]
The hand turned out to be. Preparing dozens of crabs en route in a rough sea.
More mal de mare dumped than crab guts.
No Ifs, Buts or Wherefores', Tried that not at least keen. Returning a month later like sensible people.
