8.4 million struggling to afford to eat in the United Kingdom The full policy briefing provides new data gathered for the United Nations on levels of household food insecurity in the UK. Key statistics

One in 8 Americans reported they sometimes or often didn’t have enough food to eat in the past week, hitting nearly 26 million American adults, an increase several times greater than the most comparable pre-pandemic figure, according to Census Bureau survey data collected in late October and early November.

These are not third-world countries! I would imagine they wouldn't mind killing
and eating a crab. They would love to eat a burger if they could afford it.

I reiterate - we are spoiled much!

Well no doubt if there was absolutely no option - starve or kill animals - most of us would probably resort to killing to survive. However, we don't live in those circumstances, at least most of us don't.

My point is/was given the right set of circumstances the Human , as any other animal will do what it takes to survive................

I certainly couldn’t kill a crab or any other living creature in that way.

In most slaughterhouses of any size, pigs are electrically stunned or given CO2 before their throats are slit, so they wont be aware of what is happening. They have to be hung up and have their throats slit to allow the blood to drain out. The people who do this are fully trained and have to hold a licence..

If you choose to eat meat, as I do, then you should be aware of the processes which the animal goes through to reach the table. As for killing animals for food, whilst I wouldn't wish to do this for a living, if it was a case of kill or die of starvation then yes I would kill an animal.

I don't eat any shellfish so can't comment on crabs.

It is a sad state of affaires that so many people live beneath the poverty line in supposedly rich countries like the USA (46 million i believe) and the UK too.

But families who live below the poverty line do not usually go out and catch and kill their own food so if you asked the majority in this situation the OP question, i think i know what the answer would be.

I won’t even kill a spider, catch and release only. I’m not a fan of animal suffering at all but I’m a hypocrite of course. We are who we are as humans because we eat/ate meat. Some things in life aren’t fair nor pleasant but......
Hats off to J for the honest thread. B)

On this show in the states, "naked and afraid", they have vegens on every once and a while. 99% are eating meat before they reach the 21 day mark..

I personally think it is incredibly cruel to not at the least kill them quickly by bonking them on the head.

I hope that I never have to kill a live crab. Being boiled alive is a terrible death for any creature. I would prefer, if given the choice, to eat something else.
