My dad taught me about car repairs, my job was to hold a light over the engine of a old Ford freezing cold why he tinkered on it.

My dad only taught me by his bad examples. He was a waste of oxygen. I did pretty much the opposite of what he did. He died a lonely old man.

My father was an example of extraordinary love. integrity, honesty,
self-sacrifice, and bravery. A lover of liberty and a seeker of truth.
His memory is a blessing. May his legacy live on through generations.

So much ... too much to list.

Practical things in abundance ... he always thought girls could do boy stuff like changing fuses and wiring plugs and using a plane and sandpaper for DIY ... how to fish and take care of tackle.

Life things too ... the biggest ones were to ask questions, learn from mistakes don't obsess about them, live life, it's not a rehearsal. Be responsible for your own 'stuff'.

Emotional things ... trust your instincts, don't waste time on people who abuse your time and friendship, develope a sense of humour, it will always come in handy!

... and I think he taught me a lot about family ... kids are for life regardless of their age

He was a lovely, lovely man who introduced me by example to the 'wonder' of life which he saw in so many things and I miss him every day smile.png

My Father was a vile abusive thieving drunk. The only things he taught me was how to hide my money and possessions before he stole them and sold them for drink money. I also learnt how to run as a child with a dislocated hip whilst he refused me medical treatment. He also taught me how to survive being beaten and have things thrown at me and on one occasion, be spat on.

So I don't really know what it's like to grow up having a decent father I could respect, and the only genuine thing he taught me was hatred.

No matter how much you disliked a person, you should always look for something nice about them.

My dad was a complete gentleman, kind loving caring and a teacher on so many basis without me even realising.
He taught me respect for others who deserve it, he taught me to stand up in the face of adversity and never be bullied. He taught me to treat women with respect and he taught me how racism is so wrong which bought him some confrontations back in the 60s & 70s as a lot of people thought it acceptable but my dad would say No and point out they were wrong.
He taught me so many things I could go on for an age.

He passed away in 2018 and he is very much missed by all his family and friends, his teachings will live on in all his children and down to his grandchildren and more.
