IMy daughter is considering having air conditioning installed in her 1950s house. I just open the windows. Mind you I have had a lot of flies coming in this summer.

Sandgrounder wrote: Here in the UK, most homes do not have Air Conditioning, we just open our windows and try and get a good flow of cool air through our homes. So if we are still too hot then we use fans. Having worked abroad, both in the middle and far east, where I did have the luxury of AC in my apartment and at work, it was welcome. If I was ever to build a home from scratch, then would include it in the design of the house.

that shows how misleading info. based on just some movies and visits to some homes can be. is it because the weather is generally cold with just a few hot days?

what about winters? i suppose no air conditioning but certainly heating!

Most modern homes have gas central heating installed, with radiators in most rooms. There are still areas out in the countryside that do not have mains gas, but can have a liquid gas or oil system installed. Some still have an open fire place which can burn many types of solid fuel. We can now in some areas install Solar Panels, both for water heating or electricity.

Last night was a very hot so did not have a good nights sleep.

:(

till about a decade back, we would also have a bad time in summers. places with less humid climate used " air coolers " which operated on cooling by evoperation. water trickeled down on grass mats on three sides of a box and a fan on the fourth side blew cool air in the room.

now a days, room ac have become more common and good sleep even on hot days.

Slept a bit better last night, it was a lot cooler and fresher after all the rain we had yesterday, so slept in the bed last night.

She is wonderful but she isn't a morning person she is like one of those energy saving light bulbs wake her then slowly she will start to get brighter and brighter, 20 minutes and a cup of coffee and she is shining bright all day.
