How many times have you been walking along the road and someone comes along towards you, head down, intent on reading something on their mobile phone. They haven't seen you coming towards them. What do you do?

For ages, I have just side stepped out of their way while I continue walking (a couple of times I have even had to step off the footpath onto the road to avoid contact with the phone user).

But I've decided not to step aside any more..one of the the privileges of advancing years!! You can be cantankerous.....it goes with the job description! wink.png
I just keeping walking on my chosen straight route and the mobile phone user normally looks up at the very last minute and side steps me

But I'm starting to find that all a bit stressful.....Will they look up in time? Are we going to collide? Should I stop being a grumpy old lady about people walking along using their mobiles ?

What does everyone else do? Step aside in plenty of time....or keep to your chosen route?

Oh Janquine, such games of chicken are what gives life some zest, just don't try it when you have to use a motorised chair.

I'm usually looking and thinking five moves ahead to avoid all potential hazards, though on occasion when I'm pushing a trolley full of groceries,

I walk quite fast so tend to swerve round the gormless gadget goons.

I'm more bothered about the ones who step into the road without looking up, as mentioned on a previous thread.

Sometime you have no choice but move out of their way. ,,or there would be an almighty coming together .
They are in a world of their own. ...

Same with those that cycle on the path. ,,,they have the almighty cheek to ring their bell for you to get out of the way.
Ahhhh so annoying..,,,no mate you should be riding on the road.

I think the ones stepping into a road without looking while looking at their phone, is just a form of natural selection :woohoo:

My pet hate is people walking straight out onto a pedestrian crossing expecting the traffic to stop immediately. I don't think people realise that there is a whole section of the UK Road traffic act telling pedestrians how to act when using the roads and footpaths. Had someone walk straight out into the side of my car only yesterday on a crossing, only for him to let out a torrent of expletives in front of his wife and family because I had not stopped for him. Needless to say he was in the wrong for not stopping before he crossed.

I don't get it.
They are on their "chosen path", you are on yours. Sounds more like a rant about phones to me.
A simple "Good Morning" seems a nice way to make them aware of your presence.
That has always worked for me - like when a grocery store aisle is blocked, it normally gets a smile, and they have always moved over enuf for me to get by. Even a bit of chit chat if I am in the mood and makes the store run a nicer time on top.

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass ... it's about learning to dance in the rain!
