Some people think etiquette and manners are a thing of the past, old stodgy rules for rules’ sake. But that couldn’t be further from the truth

The fundamental principles of etiquette are just as important today as ever. what is chivalry like in the 21st century, and why simply being kind and having good manners is still one of the best ways to get ahead in life.

Don’t post videos or pictures of a friend or family member on a social media site without their permission. It’s a violation of privacy and it could harm your relationship. And never post photos that could cause someone embarrassment or cause trouble at work.

I had a co-worker who posted a picture of another employee who wore a "funny hat" as a type of promotion by the sales department. She asked his permission to snap the photo and then posted in on FB. He wore a shirt with the company logo intact. She shared it on a public forum and indicated in another language that the hat looked like a man's private anatomy.

She had "friended" some big wigs in the company who saw her post. It is against company policy to post anything with the company name/logo in the first place. She was called into the office, reprimanded on a 6 month probation period and her hours have been cut down. Later she downplayed the whole incident citing she never meant any harm, she was only having a little fun. I couldn't believe my ears! Some people never learn,

All of this because she did not comply with company guidelines, not to mention common sense and decorum..

I am all in favour of kindness and consideration for others but some aspects of etiquette seem to have little relevance in modern society.

Noticed when talking to family and friends children, they sometimes look at you as if you are strange or an idiot when you talk to them about etiquette or manners. As they've got older and joined the adult community, they soon realise the error of their ways when they are on the receiving end of someone being ill mannered. I just smile and say "I told you so" smile.png smile.png
