All my life I have heard people say "I love to see a line full of washing" why? I hate line drying, at present I am having to do it as no room for a dreamy tumble dryer in my house at present. What is the fascination with yours and other peoples clothes, bedding etc on the line? I have always lived in the countryside so find that the birds have a field day with it, pollen is an issue, bonfires, bbq's, rain (what on earth does that bring down from the skies). Having to run out before the rain gets a hold fold it neatly ready to clean the line to put it out again? Now tumble drying, put a wonderful smelling sheet in and out it comes dry, no need to air nowadays, ready to fold and put away. Yes more expensive you are saying but really is it? Washing again what the birds have done, washing again after pollution from all of the above and smelling of not the fresh air of 100 years ago. Think I will have to stick with my drying pod.

As you are obviously against the pleasure of seeing washing blowing in the breeze and smelling so fresh I will just mentions a few sensible points for it..

Saves money as the sun and wind are free
Dryers weaken the fabric and wear your clothes out quicker
Fewer chemicals are used as the sun is a natural whitener
Although not for you hanging washing out can be very theraputic

You can't beat the sight of half a dozen pairs of big girl Knickers blowing like the Cutty Sark in full sail!;)

Nothing nicer than getting into a bed with clean sheets that have been dried outdoors. I much prefer drying everything out in the fresh air....But I am a bit of a fresh air freak anyway :cheer: :cheer:

I don't have big girls knickers ;) ....but I much rather my 'smalls' dry naturally out in the sunshine:lol:

I don't particularly like or dislike sight of washing on the line - it is just a practical everyday thing, not an asthetic pleasure or a fascination.

I have a tumble dryer but use it extremely rarely, perhaps once every few months. If it breaks, I won't bother replacing it.

Can't say I've ever washed anything again because of pollen or birds or rain (if it rains, it just gets wet again and stays there till it dries out again)
Very very occaisionally because of BBQ smoke or similar - perhaps once every 10 years or so.

Far cheaper - is always listed in any how to save electricity suggestions.

And nicer to have fresh air and sunshine IMO

I guess the pollution issue might depend on where one lives.

We live in a rural village so my line dried washing comes in smelling of fresh air which I much prefer to the synthetic smell of additions to a tumble drier.

I do pop towels in the tumble drier for ten minutes to fluff them up, but that is all.
