Iran sets new nuclear challenge 1 Month ago
Is it the right of any countery to have their own nuclear weapons?

Iran's president ordered uranium enrichment to be stepped up, prompting the US to call for the world to "stand together".

That was the reported news from Iran today.

Should all countries have the right to do what they want?

It does smack of hypocisy when one Country has this capability and tries to tell another it cannot. However, its worrying when the Country trying to possesses it, is unstable or in danger of becoming a fundimentalist state.

I don't think that any country should have nuclear weapons full stop.

At one time, the US had such a potential overkill that they could kill all humanity hundreds of times over and so did the old USSR.
What a pointless and dangerous position for the world to be in!!

What's happened now though is even worse because the fall of Communism has left tons of munitions, nuclear included, in the hands of extremely dangerous new "states" that have no qualms in flogging some of it on to terrorist groups if the price is right.

The objections to Iran's programme of enrichment is politically motivated by the US in particular because of its support for Israel; itself a state founded on terrorism, yet nobody seems to mind India and Pakistan having the capability to annihilate each other should one or the other party get a strop on and surely North Korea is a more worrying "rogue" state?

It's unfortunate that once something has been invented you carnt go back. No one will give up their nuclear arsnel. Even though the Americans and the former USSR reduced their war heads there remains enough to destroy the world. At the moment its only Israel's nuclear deterant that has stopped the other Middle Eastern countries from attacking it. The same goes for North Korea, the Americans wont take military action against them because they know the concequences. Therefore you can see why Iran wants the same nuclear capability.
